The Michigan Society of Anesthesiologists (MSA) is applauding state Rep. Matthew Bierlein, R-Vassar, for his resolution recognizing Patient Safety Day, which is September 17. The resolution was adopted with bipartisan support.

Anesthesiologists are the chief advocates for patients when they are sedated for surgery and other procedures and, like other physicians, take patient safety extremely seriously.

Bierlein introduced the resolution in connection with World Patient Safety Day, which is September 17. The World Health Organization designated this observance to raise global awareness about patient safety and urge others to show support for efforts to continue to make healthcare safe.

“As a member of the House Health Policy Committee, I am a strong advocate for patient safety and public health,” Bierlein said. “I call on my lawmaker colleagues to join me in supporting this important resolution so we can show all Michiganders that we are on their side in matters of patient safety and care.

MSA echoed these sentiments as the largest advocacy group for anesthesiologists in Michigan, with patient safety and the highest standards of patient care at the core of its mission.

“Patient safety is paramount to everything we do as anesthesiologists,” said Dr. Matt Dellaquila, who is MSA’s president. “Every patient who trusts us with their care during their most vulnerable moments deserves the confidence that we are committed to their safety every step of the way.”

MSA is comprised of a dedicated and active group of anesthesiologists throughout Michigan. The organization is recognized as a leader in the advancement of safety standards and innovation in care before, during, and after surgeries and procedures.
